Shadownet: Part I
A new project has been authorized by ONI. Marines are hand selected by their abilities and skill in combat, and are taken to be ONI's lab rats on the Shadownet Project. Some will live while others will die.
Mission: After several days of healing from their surgical procedures, ONI quickly orders them to find and locate a ship that had crashed into an unknown planet, where you will need to destroy it, as well as collect data on anything new, and kill any new threats without question.

Sergeant Major Kazimeras Dusanek was relaxing on the cot in the makeshift quarters with his eyes closed. He had asked for a total of 5 hours of uninterrupted sleep, or unless they needed him ASAP. He dozed off, and began dreaming about his 5 year old son and beautiful wife he had left back home 4 years ago, and suddenly wished he was there...away from fighting the Covenant, or what was left of them. He was glad to hear that the Master Chief destroyed a lot of the Covenant and the Flood back on the Ark, but was saddened to hear he didn't make it.
He heard several people coming into his quarters, and when he opened his eyes and went for his eye glasses, a strong gloved hand grabbed at his wrist when he was about ready to turn on the light by his cot.
"What the fu--!" A gloved hand covered his mouth, and then the two figured held him down by his chest. He struggled, rather violently with them, and when another figure appeared, they restrained his legs.
Hell, he didn't know how many were in there. His voice muffled, but he still struggled with them. the two men held his arms out to the side, while another person moved his head to expose his neck, and then he felt a syringe slowly piercing into the skin.
"Ahh!" He cried out. The liquid burned as it went into his bloodstream.
His eyes suddenly fluttered, sweat beating down every inch of exposed skin, and he could feel his glasses somehow biting the sides of his head. A swirling pattern of nausea and fatigue overtook Kaz, and he could sense himself drifting into a forced slumber.
One of the figures ordered the other four to carry him out, and they picked his limp body up by the arms and legs, and moved him out of the room to an empty hallway. No one was around to see it, and of course, they were ordered to stay out of sight, or would be shot.

Walking down the gravel path to the latrine, I suddenly felt a shadowy presence behind me. slowing down, I glance behind me, and didn't see anything.
Shrugging it off, I turn my head to see a gloved hand snake around my neck and slowly choke me into submission. "What in the Hell?" I shouted, whipping my arms out and behind, connecting with flesh.
Hearing an "Oof!" I whipped around as the hands weakened their grip on me but my victory would not last long as a tranquilizer dart shot out of the mans raised pistol, hitting me in the neck, and causing me to hit the dirt like a sack of cement.
The last moment I remember is a group of masked soldiers picking up my prone body, shoving me into the back of a warthog, and then as they say in the whodunits... everything went black.

He heard a faint voice...barely audible, but he could hear it as he slowly slipped in and out of consciousness. He blinked his eyes. Once. Twice. And several more times to clear his blurred vision, but his vision was still a bit blurry, and he realized his glasses were off of his face. Where was he? He shut his eyes tightly, and gritted his teeth. The last thing he remembered was getting some shut eye, and then people coming into his quarters, struggling, and then total blackness.
Kaz gradually parted his eyes again, and looked up at the light. It was bright, but not that bright. He weakly turned his head to the right and then to the left, and then slowly to the right again. He was in a room that reminded him of an operating room, but clearly much more high tech.
He groaned when he tried to sit up, but couldn't move. He was weak, yes...too weak to move, but his wrists and ankles were restrained to the cold table. It was cold in here, and he realized he wasn't wearing anything except for his boxers.
'What the...hell...?' he thought, not noticing he said it out loud. His voice was hoarse and incoherent to a couple of people who were in there.
A doctor with his face covered peered down at him. "Ah...you're awake," he mentioned, "That's fine though, but be still..."
The doctor disappeared from his view, and then some type of machine came down to hold his head from any movement from behind, and then another machine slowly traveled down toward his face.
Kaz's eyes widen in fear. What was that thing? What are they doing to him? The point of the machine glowed red, and as it lowered closer, his eyes focused on it, and then it quickly moved toward his eye. A bright light, followed by immense pain. He screamed in agony, and then heard a voice, not of his own, but another's...asking if he could hear him, and then he could see a few moments of maps and other information coming into his eye sight, and then darkness.

Slowly, the lights faded in on me, but something was wrong, the limbs on my body were limp and unresponsive, as if they were restrained.
"What in the hell is going on?" I stammered through gritted teeth, suddenly wincing from a bright light snapping on above me.
"Your injured, we're just treating you." replied the doctor, his face covered with a surgical mask. "Liar" I yelled, struggling against the straps, my entire body burning with anger and fear, soaked with adrenaline.
"Sedate him!" shouted the doctor, and no sooner did he shout that did I feel a stab of pain and then darkness again.

Kaz regained consciousness again, but this time, he was dressed in a hospital gown, and in a comfortable bed. His eye was covered where that machine did something to it, and his arms and legs were bandaged up. They were sore, but not that bad. He looked around, seeing a little more clearly than he did with his glasses on. He looked down at his left arm where there was an IV sticking out from the back of his hand. He stared at the IV, and tried to make sense at what happened to him, and how long was he here.
'How long was I here?' he asked himself.
'About one day since we brought you in here.' responded a female voice.
He looked around the room, dumbfounded on the voice.
'You can hear me? Good. That's what I really wanted to know first.'
"Who are you?" Kaz demanded. "What happened to me and why am I here?"
'You will find out as soon as the others awake,' she said. 'Now, get some rest...you will have a lot of work to do...along with those who survive this.'
Kaz stared at the door. There was no one here. There was no sign of an intercom, nor anything else. She was speaking to him, and he finally realized she was speaking to him through whatever they planted into the front part of his brain. His shoulders slumped forward, as if he was defeated, and for a while, sat there in his bed to think...and careful not to think so no one would hear him.

It was like a bad dream, I couldn't breathe, as if I was being burned alive from the inside, my veins were on fire.
Suddenly the world came back into focus, the harsh lights replaced with a more pleasant florescent glow. The glow of sunlight filtered through an open window. I looked over to my right hand, and saw a I.V patched on me, a machine beside it, dutifully dispensing drugs and showing vital statistics.
Suddenly with full force, fear and anger spiked in me and I bolted upright, only to be met by a powerful pain in my mind, forcing me to lie back down, disoriented.
"Ahh, good your awake, don't be alarmed, the pain will pass spoke a smooth female voice.
Shaking my head, I looked around for the person who was talking to me, only to find no one around me, no intercoms, nothing, pure utter nothing. Then it dawned on me, was I going insane?
" No your not going insane, you need to relax. rest, for your body needs it" spoke the female voice again.
"WHO'S THERE??, WHATS GOING ON!" I shouted, clawing at my head. Suddenly the door burst open and a doctor came in, quickly injecting my I.V with a powerful sedative.
"ARRRRGH" I screamed, bolting out of the bed, and throwing my fist at the doctor, connecting with his chest, hurling the doctor back about 5 feet. Still raging, I staggered over to him, and grabbed him by the neck, choking him. "Whats. Going. On." I started to ask, but then the I.V drugs took hold, and made me lapse once again into Unconsciousness.

Nine hours passed, and with nothing to do, he slept, and now he was awake again, he was bored. Not liking to be in bed too long, Kaz pushed the covers away from him and slowly stood. He staggered over to a chair, and quickly used an arm rest for support. He couldn't hardly stand up by himself. He could see through the other eye again...the doctors must have took the bandage off sometime while he slept. His head was hurting though, and when he felt something wet and thick moving down from the corner of his eyes, he reached up brushed it with his fingertips. He looked down. Blood?
His expression grew deep with confusion and concern. What did they do to him?
He looked over to where there was a desk, and noticed a pair of hospital scrubs neatly folded. Wanting to get out of the room, or even out of this place, he carefully moved toward the desk, and removed his gown and painstakingly replaced it with the matching maroon colored scrubs.
Standing there for a moment, he felt slightly light-headed, but shook it off and headed toward the door. He pressed an arm up against the door frame while his other hand slowly opened the door. He looked around cautiously. There were some people around, but they didn't bother to notice him as he slowly walked down the corridor, passing rooms where there were other patients.
As he started to round a corner, he noticed a female dressed in military clothing walking beside an old man who also was dressed in military clothing. He quickly moved back and started to walk back as casually as he could from where he came from, and disappeared into another room...that was occupied.

Waking up later, I slowly recall being drugged earlier when I had assaulted that doctor.
Deciding to lie there, I recall my thoughts, as difficult as they were to collect, due to the pain in my eyes and head. Running my hands through my hair, I felt something warm and sticky, and realise its blood coming from my neck, or rather from something metallic in the back of my mind.
"What the hell did they do to me" I wondered aloud to myself.
"Allow me to answer that son." A voice came from beside me. Slowly stepping forward, the old man extended his arm, offering his hand. Noting he was an admiral, I immediately snapped to, sitting as straight as my pain would allow me.
"At Ease" replied the man. "I am Admiral Bullock, head of a subcell in Section 3"
"Permission to speak freely sir?" I responded, and when the admiral gestured, I asked "What did you do to me sir?"
"To put it simply son, we've made cybernetic enhancements to your body. Not like a Spartan, but similar." responded the Admiral, looking me square in the eye.
Confused, I wanted to ask him more, but I felt it that it would be better to hold any questions till later.
"Now get some rest son, and we shall talk again" said the Admiral, turning around briskly on his heel and marched out.
"SIR" I replied Smartly.

Kazimeras quickly hid behind the privacy curtain when he entered the occupied room, and held his breath. He looked at the opened doorway as he stayed in the shadows of the corner, and watched as the old man entered to talk to the person who was in the bed for a few moments. Each second they talked, he felt like he was going to pass out for a few times while he hid. Once the man finally left the room, he slowly slid down the wall he was leaning on, and sat on the floor.
'What the fuck...? So, we're kind of like those Spartans?' he thought.
He sat there for a moment longer before getting back to his feet, and started toward the doorway.

Still confused by what the Admiral had said, I slowly layed back down on my bed, only to hear another persons thoughts than my own.
"What? whos there?" I ask aloud, half expecting another voice in my head to start talking. I then heard foot steps, and whipped my head around to see a man in maroon colored scrubs start to slowly walk away.
"Who in the hell are you?" I ask cautiously.

"Who in the hell are you?" He heard from behind him.
Kaz stopped abruptly, and looked over his shoulder. His green eyes stared at the young man in the bed. He slowly turned around half-way. and stared at him for a moment. he blinked and cursed under his breath.
"Keep your voice down," whispered Kaz, rather sharply. He poked his head out, and looked for the man and the woman, and spotted them. They were going to each room, and were closing in on the room he slept in. He frowned, looked back at the one in the bed.
Shifting his stance, he answered him. "Sergeant Major...Kazimeras Dusanek," he then said, "And I don't know about you but, being forced to be in some kind of experiment is fucking wrong, and I'm getting the hell out of here."
He glanced back into the hallway. 'Damn...lost them.' He thought.

Looking at the Seargent major, I quickly nodded and said "Agreed, They fucked us up, Im with you man."
Nodding, the man, motioned me to follow him, as he slowly pried open the window, and then with one swift punch, punched the screen out of the window.
Quickly slipping out the window, the Sergeant major fell the one meter to the ground, slowly slinking down into the bushes, watching for guards.
Seeing the coast was clear, he motioned me down.
Just as I released my hands on the sill of the window, a woman came bursting into the room I had just occupied, and then shouted at someone, "They've escaped."
Looking at the sarge, I just said two words. "Shit. RUN!"

Kaz heard the man yell for him to run, and he did. He ran pretty quick, faster than normal too. Ignoring the pain shooting up through his legs, he ran across the open area toward the tall fence. An alarm went off throughout the area, alerting the guards that were standing around.
Panting as he raced toward his destination, he ran into a large creek that went across the grassy open area, and once he was ankle deep, and ignoring the cold water, he moved foward, and then felt someone grabbing his arm and swung him up and over into the air.
"Whoa!" he yelled in surprise. He landed hard on his back into the water. He struggled to get up to his feet, drenching wet, he quickly looked around, seeing no one.
"I thought this would happen..." said a disembodied voice.
His eyes snapped around, and was surprised again with a swift kick to his chest. he staggered back and fell onto the muddy bank. Kaz started to crawl away, but felt something like a knee go down on the middle of his back, and then his arm being twisted behind him.
"Ah! Fuck!" He shouted.
"Don't struggle...or I will pull your arm out from its socket, or worse." the female voice warned. "I will be forced to kill you."
He stopped struggling and kept still. He heard a group of soldiers coming up, and heard a weird buzz noise. He looked up over his shoulder to see a young woman...with a look that could kill but equally reassuring. She was dressed in a strange combat uniform...something he never seen before.

Watching the man fly through the air only encouraged me to run faster, faster than I could have ever run before, though my legs were screaming in pain, the pain shooting up my bones, spreading through my chest.
After running for 10 minutes, I finally slowed down, reaching a bunch of trees. Grabbing hold of the Willow tree, I used the rough bark to scramble into the tree, hiding in the leaves.
All of a sudden, the tree rustled, as if struck by a high wind, and then quite suddenly, I feel the sensation of being punched in the chest, and then the unique sensation of flying.
Landing hard, I moan and try to push myself up, feeling intense pain in my chest and a pressure on my back, when I realised there was a woman in strange armor with one foot on me.
"Don't try to resist, or your chest will feel much worse." said the mystery woman.
"Dam" I thought to myself.
I had been captured again.
